Westlife clean up at crimes against music awards

Date: 15/02/2006

Westlife has won the dubious honour of being voted worst international act at the anti-Brits, the Naomi Awards.

The award show, named after Naomi Campbell's short lived career in music, name and shame the musicians who have committed the worst crimes against music of the year.

As well as worst international act, Westlife was awarded a gong for outstandingly bad contribution to music.

Former Steps singer Lisa Scott-Lee picked up a string of awards for worst British female artist, worst British single and worst pop act.

The Pussycat Dolls were named the worst international breakthrough act, and Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles the worst live act for the second year running.

"The Naomi Awards are a chance for true music aficionados to point the finger at those artists who have made truly awful music in the past year," said Simon George of organisers Music Choice.

Lee Ryan narrowly beat James Blunt to worst British male solo artist, X Factor winner Steve Brookstein won worst British album and Ms Dynamite won worst urban act.
