Take That book Wembley

Date: 14/12/2005

Novelty comeback act Take That, minus former band mate Robbie Williams, are to become the first act to play the new Wembley Stadium.

Pop commentators are claiming the booking as a sign that the long predicted nineties revival is underway, and expect renewed hostilities to break out between Liam Gallagher and Damon Albarn any moment.

If you were feeling the need to revel in the nostalgia-fest, then sorry - the reformed boyband managed to sell all 275,000 tickets within just three hours of going on sale.

You will be able to catch them elsewhere in the country however, as the no-doubt stunned band have been forced to add extra dates to their return tour to meet demand.

"We'll be really buzzed finishing at Wembley," Gary Barlow told MTV UK. "I love Charlotte Church so would like her and the Sugababes to support and maybe we could bring back another act…"

He also offered an olive branch to Take That prodigal son Robbie. "If Rob wanted to do any of the gigs he's welcome." Gaz, we're touched, but unlike the rest of you he already has a job. Don't hold your breath.
