Sugababes frozen out by Arctic Monkeys

Date: 24/10/2005

Sunday saw another new entry go straight in at number one in the official UK top 40, marking an end to Push the Button's reign as pop's most popular single.

After three weeks at number one, Sugababes were knocked off top spot by Arctic Monkeys with I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor.

The group from Sheffield built up a huge following on the internet before releasing their debut single, and at a gig in London recently fans sung along to all the words of the song before it had officially been released.Sugababes frozen out by Arctic Monkeys

McFly also entered the chart in a strong position, new single I Wanna Hold You charting at number three, just a place behind Sugababes and one place above Robbie Williams, who slipped to fourth.

Sugababes were also knocked off the top of the album chart, with the Prodigy compilation album Their Law – The Singles 1990-2005 flying into top spot.

Elsewhere in the album chart, Franz Ferdinand continued to slide, down to number nine despite entering the album chart at number one just two weeks ago.

Remarkably, former S-Clubber Rachel Stevens could only manage a number 28 entry for her latest offering Come and Get It, which, unfortunately for Rachel, not many people did.
