| Could it be that the giant of the hip hop world, Kanye West, is planning to all rock'n'roll on his fans?
The star has been revealed as a warm-up act for two of the biggest rock bands on the planet, possibly hinting at a break with the hip hop world. It has been announced that Kanye will be playing on the North American leg of the Rolling Stones' A Bigger Bang tour and will also feature in the next world tour by U2.
But fans of West should not get too concerned, as he is unlikely to be dropping his traditional hip hop act for something more rock-based. Instead, the tours will provide him with an opportunity to expand his fan base and take his music to a wider audience. It will also provide a great opportunity for fans of the star to see him playing at some of the biggest gigs in the world.
Both U2 and the Stones are renowned for their huge stadium gigs, which bring thousands of fans together in one arena, and for the energetic performances they put in while on stage. The Stones recently broke the world record for the number of people at one gig, when around two million fans crowded onto the Copacabana Beach in Brazil. As such Kanye will certainly have a lot to live up to, but fans of his will already know he is more than capable of holding his own in such illustrious company!
Kanye West will hook up with the Bigger Bang tour bus at the Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts to open for the Stones on September 20th, before moving on to the Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey on the 27th of the month. The Stones have played with some of the biggest names in the music industry from across all different genres down the years and the addition of Kanye to the bill is testament to the hip hop star's growing popularity, particularly in the US.
Previous names to have worked with the Stones read like a chart countdown, from the Dave Matthews Band and Van Morrison on their current tour, to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam and Metallica.
Once playing those two dates in the US, West will then jet off to Australia and New Zealand, where he will provide the warm-up act for Irish rock legends U2. The band have rescheduled a number of gigs after one of the members had to rush home for a family emergency. But with the tour set to get underway again, Kanye has now been confirmed as joining them Down Under.
