Franz Ferdinand has made a startling admission about the lyrics to their songs – even they don't understand them!

Apparently according to the other band members, singer Alex Kapranos often has to explain the song words to the rest of the group.

"You gotta know what the songs are about, otherwise you don't know how to play them," guitarist Nick McCarthy told MTV.

"If it's about a rough guy, you play it a bit rougher or something like that."

Kapranos, however, explained to MTV that the songs are as deep as the listener wants: "If all you hear is the "whoo-hoo" from the chorus, that's fine, but you can put a lot more into it as well. It's there if you want to hear it."

The singer was referring to the band's new stateside single The Fallen that they are currently promoting in the US.

The band is set to release a different single in the UK, with Walk Away to launch its assault on the charts from December 5th.
