Eminem supports site in memory of Proof

Date: 19/07/2006

The US rapper has paid tribute to his former band partner Proof by helping to launch a website dedicated to the fallen singer.

The multi-platinum selling artist has been involved in the launch of the bwww.bigproof4ever.com website, which is designed to help the rapper's memory live on. The site is a collaboration between D12's management Goliath Artists and Eminem's own record label.

Proof and Eminem, Marshall Mathers in real life, were both members of the hit rap group D12. Proof was killed earlier this year, outside a nightclub in Eminem's native Detroit.

Fans of Proof can purchase all kinds of merchandise from the site, such as posters and T-shirts, commemorating the artist.

Some of the T-shirts are predicted to be popular, as they not only contain a picture of Proof but were also designed by the famous graphic designer Shepard Fairey.

Money raised on items sold through the site will go towards a foundation set up by Eminem's record label, Shady Records, in Proof's memory.

"People were affected by Proof's death and touched by the way he lived his life, whether they were friends, fans, or both," said Marc LaBelle, from Shady Records.

"Some of those very people, who work in the art and merchandising worlds, reached out to find a way to creatively celebrate Proof's life. A commemorative poster was created by world renowned underground artist and creator of Obey campaigns, Shepard Fairey.

"Seeing Proof's face is a reminder that his influence will go on forever. All proceeds of the shirts and posters will support his family," he added.

Some of the rapper's final work is thought to become available on a new D12 album anticipated to be released soon.

And Eminem has reportedly been asked for his help elsewhere too.

Fallen superstar Michael Jackson has pleaded with one of the most powerful figures in hip hop to join him in a collaboration, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

Any hook up between Jackson and Eminem would be pretty ironic, after Eminem mocked the former Jackson Five front man during the video for his hit single Just Loose It.
