Eminem's rollercoaster ride

Date: 01/08/2006

Eminem has had a bad time of it recently, but things might be starting to get better.

The rap star recently got back together with his ex-wife, Kimberley Mathers, when they got married in January this year. It all looked rosy for Slim Shady, as the pair enjoyed married bliss once again and family life with ten-year old daughter Hailie Jade, as well as Kim's cousin and child from a separate relationship.

But the arrangement soon broke down, with Eminem filing for divorce just 82 days after the wedding ceremony had taken place, far shorter even than their first marriage, which ran from 1999 to 2001.

In April, close friend and fellow D12 rapper, Deshaun "Proof" Holton, was shot down in the band's hometown of Detroit. It was reported following this incident that Eminem was struggling with depression, which is perhaps unsurprising given the sharp downturn in fortune his life has taken since the turn of the year.

And the latest incident to catch the public's attention has again been for Eminem's off-stage antics, with the rapper almost suffering another run-in with the law. A man alleged that the star assaulted him in the toilets of a strip club earlier this month. Reports have claimed that the attack was provoked by the man, who has been referring to himself simply as Miad J, when he saw Eminem in the restroom. Some claims have suggested that the man pestered Eminem for his autograph until the superstar snapped, attacking Miad J.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at the Cheetah strip club on Detroit's 8 Mile – the road which gave its name to Eminem's debut film role. Cheetah's has confirmed that a fight did take place at the club and stated that Eminem had been involved, although they have declined to comment any further on the nature of the incident.

However, it could be that, finally, Slim Shady's luck is beginning to turn. This is because the alleged victim, Miad J, has decided not to bring assault charges against Eminem, meaning that the rapper can put this incident to rest and move on. And as we move into the second half of 2006 it could be that he may be able to leave the bad feeling and events of the first six months of the year behind and get on with what he does best – making music.

It's certainly been an emotional six months for Eminem but his fans will all be hoping he can get some luck going his way and get back on the music scene in the months ahead.
