BT awards set to cause a stir

Date: 22/09/2005

The BT Digital Music Awards, the digital equivalent of the Brit awards, are taking place next month, and several top singers and bands have been nominated for an award.

Coldplay, Stereophonics and Gorrillaz are among the top groups to be nominated.

Best pop artist will be chosen from among Goldfrapp, James Blunt, KT Tunstall and Natasha Bedingfield.

Nominations for best single, which have been heard as ringtones recently, include records from James Blunt, Chemical Brothers and Charlotte Church.

Music lovers can vote online for 14 of the 18 categories, the remaining four being judged by panels of experts.

The awards are organised in association with iTunes, Intel, Motorola and Yahoo! Music and backed by the BPI, Britain's record trade association, and the Official UK Charts Company.

The ceremony will be held at Hammersmith Palais, in west London.
