50 Cent, Asher D collaboration on the cards

Date: 27/07/2006

A collaboration between US rapper 50 Cent and British talent Asher D could be on the cards sometime soon.

Former So Solid Crew star Asher D – real name Ashley Walters – said that the pair had been planning to get together and record some tracks for a while.

"50 Cent is cool. I've been so busy filming and so has he, so we couldn't get into the studio for my next album," he said.

"But we have kept in touch since and are definitely going to do a collaboration for my next one."

The pair apparently met and bonded on the set of Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson's 2005 movie Get Rich or Die Tryin', in which Asher played Antwan, a childhood friend of Jackson's young rapper on a journey from rags to riches.

Asher D has been acting for a while, having started out in the acting game as a kid with a part in the musical Oliver and going on to star in children's series Grange Hill.

He won rave reviews for his performance in the 2004 film Bullet Boy, in which he played the central character, Ricky, a young man fresh out of jail.

Before trying the big screen, Asher achieved chart success with So Solid Crew, moving from underground club party origins to gain notoriety for its 30-plus members and a string of top ten hits.

Someone else who wants to bring a little of 50's magic onto their next project is US singing sensation Chris Brown.

The Run It! star has said that he is determined to shake off his fresh-faced teen image in his budding movie career and wants to be more like idol 50 Cent in his new roles.

"I'm looking at some serious roles that would take me out of the kiddie — well, not kiddie — but the sweet Chris Brown that everybody knows," he told MTV.

"It would be more of a life-challenging Chris Brown, like how 50 Cent's story was [in 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' '], more along the lines of playing a role like that."

Chris has just made his acting debut in dance movie Steppin', due for release in early 2007, featuring his next single, Say Goodbye, on its soundtrack.

50 Cent, meanwhile, is sure to be busy for some time to come, having agreed to be executive producer on LL Cool J's next album, Todd Smith Part 2: Back to Cool.
