Chart topper 50 Cent is continuing in his march towards superstardom with three nominations at the 33rd annual American Music Awards.

The rapper was nominated for favourite male artist in the rock/pop category as well as favourite male artist and favourite album (The Massacre) in the rap/hip-hop category.

Other lead nominations include Mariah Carey with four showing a huge resurgence for the singer who's latest album, The Emancipation of Mimi, has been in the top ten of the US Billboard 200 chart for almost six months, and has sold more than 3.2 million copies to date.

Black Eyed Peas, Destiny's Child and American Idol Fantasia all received two nominations.

Winners will be announced on November 22 during a televised ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
